Effexor XR (extended-release) also treats generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety. Both drugs are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). You may have an increased risk of side effects (eg, mental or mood changes, numbness or tingling of the skin, dizziness, confusion, headache, increased sweating, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, trouble sleeping, or unusual tiredness. If you need to stop Effexor, your doctor may need to gradually lower your dose. Antidepressants may increase risk of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in children, adolescents, and young adults (18–24 years of age) with major depressive disorder and other psychiatric disorders; balance this risk with clinical need.
